What we are working on now
Instituting an Islamic-Compliant 529 College Savings Plan Offering in Washington state
We are advocating for Washington state to develop and offer an Islamic-compliant 529 college savings option. 529 plans are state-sponsored college savings plans with tax advantages. Currently, many Muslim families are unable to participate in existing 529 offerings because they involve Riba, Gharar, and investments in haram industries.
The Responsible Investments Act: SB 6304 & HB 2662
We are supporting SB 6304 & HB 2662, Washington state bills calling for ethical investments in Washington state! If this passes, it would require the state to sell over $1.2 billion invested in companies that have profited from the genocide, and groups like GEO, among many other unethical investments.
Islamophobia Curriculum
Successfully secured $400,000 in Islamophobia Curriculum funding, supporting teachers in addressing issues in the classroom. The curriculum is currently being developed by a Washington-based Muslim curriculum expert organization in collaboration with the Puget Sound Educational Service District. This critical initiative aims to equip educators across the state with the tools they need to address Islamophobia in the classroom and foster inclusive learning environments.
