(SEATTLE, WA, 7/10/2023) – The Washington chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-WA), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on the public to help identify two individuals caught on video burglarizing the Islamic Center of Federal Way.

In video shared by the mosque, two men are seen entering the facility through a window. They walk all over the sacred space with their shoes on, proceeding to break into the mosque’s office. According to mosque officials, the proceeds from charitable donations were stolen during the break-in.

“Seeing a house of worship targeted and disrespected like this is highly concerning,” said Imraan Siddiqi, CAIR-WA’s executive director. “We stand with the ICFW community in calling for those who burglarized to be identified and caught.”

During a five-month span in 2021-22, multiple mosques in Washington State were targeted by either hate, vandalism or burglaries. The Federal Way mosque can be contacted with any relevant information regarding this crime through the organization’s Facebook page.

CAIR-WA also called on mosques and Islamic institutions to use the advice offered in CAIR’s “Best Practices for Mosque and Community Safety” booklet to help keep those facilities safe.

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
