(SEATTLE, WA, 9/3/2026) – The Washington State chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR-WA), a chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the sentencing of an armed vigilante who was convicted of the 2024 killing of 17-year-old Hazrat Ali Rohani in Renton.
As Rohani and his friends walked into a Big 5 Sporting Goods store to return their bb guns, they were approached by Aaron Myers in the parking lot. Myers escalated the situation, pointing a weapon at the teens, who complied while telling the off-duty security guard the guns weren’t real. Ultimately, Myers shot Rohani a total of 7 times, killing the teen.

Imraan Siddiqi, CAIR-WA Executive Director, said, “We are still shocked and saddened by the senseless killing of Hazrat Ali Rohani, however we hope that this sentence brings some level of justice and closure for the Rohani family. There are still questions about why law enforcement didn’t intervene and stop Aaron Myers from shooting this innocent young man, but for now we welcome this sentence.”
