(SEATTLE, WA, 5/19) – The Washington state chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-WA), a chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today demands Washington State politicians end their “campaign of hate” targeting Muslim Americans after the deadly shooting in the Islamic Center of San Diego.

Yesterday, May 18, 2026, at the Islamic Center of San Diego a deadly shooting took place taking the lives of three of three Muslim community members at the mosque. This act of hate is of no surprise when U.S. politicians are calling for hate and violence against Muslims. Just this last week, there was an unprecedented show of anti-Muslim bigotry and fearmongering on Capitol Hill. Our Washington state politicians must call for an end to this “campaign of hate” by their colleagues.

Imraan Siddiqi, Executive Director at CAIR-WA “As evidenced by the disgusting display of anti-Muslim fearmongering by elected officials on Capitol Hill just this past week by elected officials, Islamophobia has continued to be an “acceptable” form of bigotry in the public’s eye.  For the Muslim community, we know all too well that this sanctioned bigotry translates into horrific acts of violence – as we have seen in San Diego.  We continue to pray for all three victims of this horrible attack and call on our elected officials to denounce anti-Muslim bigotry once and for all.”

We want to ensure that our community members are protected. We know that the Muslim community in Washington State is a large, beautiful community and as our communities continue to be the target of anti-Muslim hate we stand firm with our community. Over 90% of Muslims we have surveyed in Washington State. A significant majority of community members report facing discriminatory practices at their jobs and schools. The reality is that Islamophobia against breeds violence,

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
