(Seattle, WA, 12/3/2025)—The Washington state chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-WA), a chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned President Trump’s vile statements regarding Somali-Americans and Somali immigrants.

After years of targeting Minnesota congresswoman Ilhan Omar, President Trump recently called for an end to temporary protected status for Somali immigrants in Minnesota and made cruel statements in a cabinet meeting yesterday.

Imraan Siddiqi, CAIR-WA’s Executive Director, said, “Washington proudly holds one of the largest Somali-American populations in the nation, and President Trump’s comments are an insult to not only that community, but all immigrants. The Somali community is an amazing success story, with political leaders, entrepreneurs, attorneys, and many hard-working individuals who keep our airport and ports running. We condemn this characterization and call on President Trump to stop singling out and disparaging this thriving community.”

Washington state is home to a large, thriving, and vibrant Somali community. CAIR-WA repudiates the President’s statements and wholeheartedly stands with Somali-Americans and Somali immigrants in our state and nationally.

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
